MIMI, NAMED TOP ALBUM OF 2005.
With only three days to spare before the end of 2005, Mariah Carey has surpassed rapper 50 Cent in a race for the best-selling album of the year.

The singer?s Grammy-nominated The Emancipation of Mimi sold 290,000 copies during the week ending Dec. 25, sending the comeback disc to the top spot for the year 2005.

Should sales projections prove accurate through the post-Christmas rush, the album?s 37-week presence on the chart and 4.87 million units sold puts the singer in contention to be the first female solo artist to boast the year's No. 1 album since Alanis Morissette?s "Jagged Little Pill" in 1996....more »
BAD BOY SUED OVER SAMPLES
Music publishing company Bridgeport Music Inc., and sister company Westbound Records are suing the late Notorious B.I.G., his record label Bad Boy and parent company Universal for copyright infringement, claiming the parties never got permission to sample their work for songs on Biggie?s 1994 debut album, Ready to Die.

According to Sohh.com, Bridgeport and Westbound say that Biggie?s tracks "Ready to Die" and "Gimme the Loot" illegally used samples from the Ohio Players' "Singing in the Morning," and that "Machine Gun Funk" uses a part of the Horny Horns' "Up for the Down Stroke." With their hit Laffy Taffy sitting at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart this week, the Atlanta-based rap group D4L has chosen to respond to a series of accusations flung their way by members of Dem Franchize Boyz, the group behind the hit I Think They Like Me.

The former WWE wrestler who is suing Jay-Z for allegedly swiping his Diamond hand symbol has spoken out about the case during a recent radio interview.

Diamond Dallas Page, who says he was the first to use the "Diamond Cutter" hand symbol in 1996 and considers it his logo, said he had not originally intended to file a federal suit against the mogul, but when negotiations with Jigga?s legal team went nowhere, Page said he felt legal action was necessary. ...more »
